Whether you’re just starting to use essential oils or you’ve been using them for a long time, lavender is one of the most versatile oils out there. It’s also one of my absolute favorites! It can be used for relaxing, for alleviating symptoms, and for cleaning your home. Few oils pack the same power as this amazing essential oil. In fact, I saw the power of lavender from an accident in my kitchen on Thanksgiving day from something that had been in the oven for 6 hours!
Here’s four of my favorite ways to use lavender essential oil:
Calming and relaxing qualities at night
Lavender has tremendous relaxation qualities. Simply smelling lavender can help your entire mind and body unwind and forget your troubles. Add to bath water to soak away stress or apply to the temples and the back of the neck. Before bed, you can place a drop or two on your hands, rub them together, and inhale or place a diffuser on your bedside table.
Another option is to place a few drops in your lotion and apply at night as your start your bedtime routine. Last, but certainly not least, you can make your own linen spray and mist your bedding to create a calming environment suited for a great night’s sleep.
There are many benefits to having lavender oil in your household first aid kit. It’s great for every day skin irritations. An antibacterial, a drop of lavender oil on a scrape or cut. Put a drop of lavender essential oil on a bug bite to soothe away irritation.
It’s a soothing aid and a nice way to make you feel better after getting too close to the curling iron or something on your stove. Add a drop of lavender or create a mixture of lavender and fractionated coconut oil and apply to skin to reduce appearance of imperfections.
Your secret ingredient in the kitchen
One of my favorite things to do with lavender is add it to drinks and dishes in the kitchen. When you’re cooking, it helps to soften citrus flavors and add a flavorful twist to marinades, baked goods, and desserts. In the summer, I love making a lavender and lemonade and ice tea that’s cool and refreshing.
We’ve all been there when someone is struggling as soon as the flowers start to bloom in the Spring or the hay is being harvested in the fall. When you mix lavender, lemon, and peppermint essential oil together, they help you through changing seasons by protecting against environmental threats.
If you’re going hiking or even spending the day outside in your garden, add a drop of each of these oils in your palm, rub your hands together and take a few nice deep breaths to promote clear breathing.
Lavender is diverse and multifunctional. You can use it as part of your home spa treatments, on your linens, or for its cleansing properties. Choose a good quality oil so that you know you’re safe especially if you plan to use essential oils internally.
