6 Uses for Melaleuca Essential Oil

Tea Tree, or Melaleuca Oil, is one of the most useful essential oils that you can find. It’s found in the leaves of the melaleuca alternifolia plant, which is native to Australia. It’s often described as smelling a bit like camphor. It has a large number of uses ranging from purifying skin to cleaning your home.

6 Uses for Melaleuca Essential Oil - Jenna Drew

Melaleuca was actually my FIRST essential oil that I ever experienced outside of the aromatic benefits.  I had a wart on my foot for over 10 years that modern medicine (you know the freezing, cutting, scraping, etc) couldn’t remove.  After 7 days of using my Melaleuca essential oil, it disappeared!

Want to find out how I did it? Check out this post where I talked more about how to remove a wart with essential oils.

Anyways, there’s a lot of uses for Melaleuca. Let’s take a look at the many different uses.

Skin blemishes

Melaleuca oil has cleansing and rejuvenating effect on the skin. It’s been proven quite effective for skin irritations and blemishes. In fact, a gel with 5 percent tea tree oil is just as effective as 5 percent benzoyl peroxide. It is also less irritating and drying to skin. For occasional skin irritations, apply one to two drops of Melaleuca essential oil onto affected area(s).

Healthy nails

Tea tree oil is commonly used topically for both skin and nails. Apply to fingernails and toenails after showering to purify and keeps nails looking healthy. If you have sensitive skin, try diluting it with fractionated coconut oil.

Bugs

During the summer when bugs are all around, use a drop of Melaleuca to soothe away irritations from bug bites.

Household cleaning

When mixed with apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil is an effective and non-toxic household cleanser. You can mix it in a spray bottle and use it to clean your bathroom. Some people also enjoy adding a few drops to their household laundry, particularly the undergarments, to help deep clean and leave your laundry smelling fresh.

Dental care

There are some studies that show that tea tree oil is effective for cleaning teeth and gums. And when it’s combined with peppermint oil it can promote fresh breath.

Aftershave

Combine 1–2 drops of Melaleuca with your facial cleanser for added cleansing properties, or apply to skin after shaving. You’ll score bonus points with your man for adding a little eucalyptus or juniper berry essential oil.

The uses for tea tree oil are virtually limitless. It’s a powerful purifier and cleanser and makes an excellent addition to your household first aid kit.

Keep in mind though, essential oil information is only as good as the essential oils that you’re using!
