Cleansing the Gut: 3 mistakes you’re making with your seasonal cleanse

CleansingGut-Mistakes

Most of my clients come to me after lots of exhausting hours spent in and out of doctors offices trying to figure out what is truly going on with their bodies.  They have been told they have everything from constipation to IBS or even told they are simply a picky eater to being ‘psychotic’ and making up their symptoms. After months (and sometimes years) of frustration, my clients are looking for natural solutions to reset their wellness through cleansing and detoxification.

Our bodies are cleansing themselves naturally all the time to boost our immunity and fighting off disease. However, the toxins present in our world today put more and more stress on our body’s detoxification pathways. When our system gets overloaded, we often experience one or more of the following health issues:

  • Thyroid issues
  • Headaches
  • Adult acne
  • Belly bloat
  • Weight gain or weight loss
  • Allergies (chemical or food)
  • Poor sleep
  • Loss of sex drive
  • Mood swings, anxiety, depression
  • IBS or constipation
  • Diabetes, cancer, or other diseases…

The truth is my clients need a change, and we start with their diet.  Food can cause inflammation, fatigue or emotional changes in our mood or it can give you energy, uplift your spirit and nourish your body. But, each one of us reacts differently to foods. My 11-day seasonal clean eating cleanses are designed to help you pinpoint the foods that are right for your unique body.

During a clean eating cleanse, the food is only part of the transformation. In fact, to completely makeover your body and mindset, there are 3 important additions to your detox routine, but they are often skipped over.  Here are the three mistakes that are often made during a seasonal cleanse:

1. Skipping skin brushing

I dry skin brush every single morning before I shower.  Your skin is the largest detox organ and sometimes referred to as the third kidney.  Your skin is absolutely vital for healthy detoxification and skin brushing can help to relieve any detox symptoms that you might be experiencing. While there are many benefits to skin brushing, a few of my favorite include stimulating your lymphatic system, improving digestion and kidney function and even reduce cellulite. You can purchase a skin brush at Whole Foods, on Amazon.com, or simply use a dry towel.  I’ve even found a good one at TJMaxx once but that was a score!

2. Not tongue scraping daily during detox

By tongue scraping every morning, you remove bacteria that can lead to poor digestion and liver stagnation.  I suggest tongue scraping before brushing your teeth. Use a tongue scraper or a spoon to reach as far back as possible, and pull forward, scraping off the white film, which is candida and streptococcus mutans. It also helps to beat halitosis, improve digestion and even boost your immunity.

3. Improper food combining

Many of my clients who suffered from belly bloat and digestive pain and problems have found it helpful to experiment with food combining. The majority of the recipes are properly food combined to ensure your digestion is absorbing the nutrients and enzymes are not competing. Many have found candida, weight issues, or even the sugar cravings fade away when they properly food combine. All of the meals within my 11-day clean eating cleanse program are properly food combined and dive deeper into the best ways to nourish your body with real foods.

Currently I’m winterizing my 11-day clean eating cleanse program, and it’s getting revamped to nourish your kidneys and adrenals this winter. Sign up here to get notified when I re-open enrollment for my next group program in January.
