DIY Garden Globes with Mini Solar Lights

DIY tutorial to make your own hanging garden globes with solar powered mini bulbs.

I grew up in the middle of no where with lots of greenery. So when I moved to NYC, I was shocked to only see flowers, grass and trees in Central Park, Battery Park and a lucky few corners in between like the High Line.

When I was little I was always the helper when it came to DIY, gardening and cooking. I remember back when I was in elementary school when my parents had a DIY greenhouse that was like my secret hideaway just being among the plants, their delicious aromas and the excitement of seeing how a seed turned into a plant which turned into food.

Since then I’ve grown herbs and even had ‘enough’ space to grow a rooftop garden.  I’ve been obsessing with Pinterest lately and needed to reset a few things in the back ‘yard’ after a certain culprit (seen below) decided to eat half of the perennials that I planted last year to fill our privacy fence. Lowe’s had a fun little tutorial about how to make your own garden light globes with solar powered lights that I decided to give a shot. Here’s the final results:

Instead of creating my own globes with wire per the instructions, I stopped into TJ MAXX to see what was on hand and already put together. These are the three amazing pieces I found that would be the perfect fit.

What a find, right?! The green ball of lovely was 9.99, the wooden piece was 9.99 and the black metal sphere was on clearance for 5 bucks. Who doesn’t love a little discount?

Next stop was Target for the solar powered lights. It must have been my lucky day because those were on sale, too!

Instead of a plan for wrapping the lights strings around the globes, I used a little creativity and a few zip ties to secure the lights and then hung them with garden wire .  Here’s the end results:

Here’s what they look like at night all lit up and pretty:
