How to Use Essential Oils for Immune Support

While it may not be cold and flu season right now, your immune system may still be under duress. If you’re feeling exhausted or dealing with aches, pains, or sniffles then your immune system may need some extra support. And giving your body an extra boost of antioxidants can help you any time of the year.

There are different ways to promote a healthy immune function. For example, you know that probiotics are good for your gut. Improved gut health leads to a stronger system. You also know that sleep and stress play significant roles in your immune health. When you leverage the power of essential oils, you’re using them in a way to support your complete health.

Promoting a restful sleep

When you’re able to get a full night’s sleep, your body can do what it needs to rest and repair. Your immune system is able to function optimally. Essential oils like lavender and chamomile are both exceptional for helping you relax and fall asleep.

Reduce anxious feelings

Chronic stress is destructive. The cortisol that is released into your body when you’re under stress damages your cells. The more stress you’re dealing with, the more damage you endure. Simple steps like meditation, exercise, and essential oils for stress can help you boost your immune system.

Lavender is one go-to oil for calming properties. Citrus oils like orange, lemon and grapefruit, as well as clary sage, bergamot, cedar wood, and ylang ylang are great for reducing anxious feelings. You can add a few drops to a bath, use them in a diffuser, or smell the oils when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Cleansing and purifying properties

Did you know that many essential oils have antibacterial properties? You can kill bacteria on your hands with lavender oil. Other antibacterial oils, such as tea tree oil, can have powerful effects.

Ginger and peppermint oil have been shown to improve digestive health. And eucalyptus and juniper oils can open the airways in your sinuses and lungs. You can add ginger and peppermint oil to your food, and any oil can be added to a diffuser.
