On Saturday I was crowned Miss New Jersey International 2013 in East Brunswick, NJ. For those of you that know me really well, you know that I’m thrilled with the chance to represent New Jersey as well as the opportunity this will give me to promote Celiac Disease Awareness.
The International Pageant system is heavily based on interview and the contestants choosing a platform that they will work on throughout the year. Celiac Disease awareness was the obvious choice for me based on my past volunteer and awareness efforts with the National Foundation of Celiac Awareness. In addition, the pageant supports the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign.
So What Does It Mean?
The short answer is I’ll go on to compete for the title of Miss International in Chicago this July. The much longer answer is that the coming year is going to be life-changing. I’ll be working in conjunction with the National Foundation of Celiac Awareness as a national spokesperson, raising funds for Celiac research, appearing at events locally and national, meeting individuals and making connections that I wouldn’t be able to make otherwise and committing to a year of improving myself along the way.
How Can I Get Involved?
Throughout the year, I’ll keep you updated on my appearances and volunteering efforts as well as point out any opportunities for you to help via my Miss New Jersey International 2013 Facebook page and GlutenFreeJenna.com. I already have a few events lined up which I’ve shared below. However, one in particular needs your help. I’ll be running in the Making Tracks for Celiacs 5K in Baltimore, MD on May 19. This run/walk benefits the Celiac Research Center and raises funds for – you guessed it – Celiac research! My goal is to raise $500 for the event. Please take a moment and make a small donation here.
